Map Reports¶
A Map Report pairs a Jasper report with an interactive map. Users select features or an extent; the server derives parameters and runs the report.
Edition
Map Reports require a licensed Professional package. They are not compiled into the Open Source package. Jasper reports and the datasources UI are available on both packages.
How it works for users¶
- Open the Map Report in the viewer at
/reports/{key}. - Interact with the map (select features or define an extent).
- The server derives spatial parameters.
- The Jasper report fills using those parameters and your other inputs.
Spatial datasource¶
Publishing/running a Map Report expects a spatial datasource. PostgreSQL/PostGIS is the common production path. Server messaging may also mention MySQL, SQL Server, or Oracle in some spatial checks.
Embedded Maps vs Map Reports¶
| Embedded Map | Map Report | |
|---|---|---|
| Interaction | None at view time — map is part of filled output | Interactive map in the viewer |
| Edition | Open Source: PostGIS, MySQL, GeoServer. Professional also allows QGIS before a license. ArcGIS requires a license. | Licensed Professional |
| Authoring | Map element in JRXML | Map Report type + spatial datasource |
