Report Server Professional

MCP Server

Connect AI to your reporting data without giving AI direct access to your database.

AcuGIS Report Server Professional provides a governed MCP interface to the datasets behind reports. AI clients can discover and query data the authenticated user is already permitted to access while Report Server remains the security boundary.

AI Access Through Report Server

MCP extends existing Report Server capabilities to compatible AI clients. Instead of connecting an AI client directly to a database, Report Server controls which datasets the user can discover and query.

Existing Identity

MCP uses Report Server authentication and the identity associated with the authenticated user.

verified_user

Existing Permissions

Users can access only report datasets they are already authorized to view.

Controlled Queries

AI clients work through declared report datasets and parameters rather than receiving unrestricted SQL access.

A Controlled Path to Your Data

The AI client talks to Report Server, not directly to the underlying database. Report Server authenticates the request, applies existing access controls, and exposes a controlled dataset interface.

  • check No arbitrary SQL

Discover, Understand, Query

Report Server exposes a focused set of MCP tools for working with authorized report datasets.

list_datasets

Discover the report datasets the authenticated user is permitted to access.

describe_dataset

Understand dataset fields, parameters, governance information, profiling, and lineage without exposing the underlying SQL.

query_dataset

Run the report's main dataset using its declared parameters and return the result through the governed Report Server interface.

MCP Is an Interface, Not an AI Model

Report Server does not add an LLM to your reporting infrastructure. MCP is a controlled interface that allows compatible AI clients to use capabilities Report Server already provides.

MCP Provides

  • check_circle Dataset discovery
  • check_circle Dataset metadata
  • check_circle Controlled dataset queries
  • check_circle Existing authentication
  • check_circle Existing report permissions

MCP Does Not Provide

  • remove An embedded LLM
  • remove Database credentials
  • remove Arbitrary SQL execution
  • remove A new authorization system
  • remove Unrestricted database access

Built on Existing Report Server Security

MCP uses the same Report Server identity and authorization model as the rest of the platform. Personal Access Tokens authenticate API access, and report permissions determine which datasets a user can access.

  • check Personal Access Token authentication
  • check Existing user identity
  • check Existing report ACLs
  • check No new database credentials
  • check No arbitrary SQL
  • check Professional feature gating

Available with Report Server Professional

MCP Server is a Professional capability for organizations that want to connect AI clients to governed reporting data while keeping Report Server in control of authentication, authorization, and data access.

Connect AI Without Bypassing Your Reporting Layer

Give compatible AI clients controlled access to the reporting data your users are already authorized to use.
